Preventive Dentistry
Holistic dentistry focuses on full-body health and wellness, so Dr. Maryam Jackson prioritizes prevention for her patients. We can treat gum disease and restore cavities, but it is better for you and your oral and general health if we can prevent them from developing in the first place.
The American Dental Association’s recommendation is for oral health checkups every six months for adults and children. If you have gum disease or are at increased risk for cavities, we may recommend more frequent visits to help you maintain healthy teeth and gums.
Comprehensive Dental Exams
During your six-month dental exams at our Orange, CA dental office, our dentist performs the following:
- Updates your dental records
- Checks for signs of gum disease
- Inspects your teeth for cavities and damage
- Takes digital x-rays as needed
- Performs a bite analysis
- Completes an oral cancer screening
If Dr. Jackson detects cavities or gum disease, she will create a long-term treatment plan using minimally invasive dentistry to ensure your dental health and general wellbeing.
Cleanings with a Dental Hygienist
Cleaning appointments with one of our experienced hygienists include:
- Plaque and tartar removal
- Oral pH testing
- Nutritional counseling
- Ozone therapy
- Recommendations for improved oral hygiene at home
Many patients are pleasantly surprised by how much better their smiles look and feel after a thorough dental cleaning. Not only will your teeth feel slick and look brighter, but you will enjoy fresher breath and the knowledge that your smile is as clean as it can be.
Prompt Gum Disease Treatment
What happens in your mouth also affects your body, and untreated periodontal infections are linked to numerous general health conditions, including:
- Heart and lung disease
- Diabetes
- Dementia
- Arthritis
- Stroke
If you have gum disease, we will tailor treatment depending on how far it has advanced. For patients with mild gum disease or gingivitis, we perform a thorough teeth cleaning and provide tips for improving your oral hygiene habits.
If we find periodontitis or advanced gum disease, our hygienist will perform a deep cleaning called scaling and root planing. This treatment eliminates plaque and tartar above and below the gumline and smooths root surfaces to help prevent reinfection.
Helping You Understand Your Oral Health Needs
As an experienced dentist, Dr. Jackson understands that informed and involved patients tend to experience better oral health overall. That is why so much of our technology is devoted to educating our patients on their dental needs.
Intraoral cameras include you in the process as our dentist performs your dental exams. The little digital camera lights up the inside of your mouth, so you can see what she sees and better understand your oral health needs.
It’s also easy to share digital x-rays and show you what’s happening inside your teeth and under your gums. Because you have the full picture of your oral health needs, you can make confident and informed decisions about dental treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, we are pleased to offer ozone (O3) therapy at our Orange, CA dental office. We make fresh distilled ozone water daily that is utilized throughout all of our operatories and used as a pre-rinse. We also use ozone gas during our restorative treatment and dental cleanings. Ozone oil is also available to purchase in our office for oral care.
How We Use Ozone Gas in Dentistry
Ozone is a highly active form of oxygen and potent antimicrobial that acts as a disinfectant. Non-invasive ozone therapy is used in dentistry to kill harmful bacteria and leave healthy bacteria to do their job. Among the many applications, ozone application has become our preferred technique to:
- Disinfect a prepared tooth after removing decay
- Minimize or eliminate tooth sensitivity
- Prevent formation of new cavities
- Sterilize a tooth after root canal treatment
- Disinfect tooth socket after extraction
Ozone is also helpful for disinfecting areas of chronic gum disease. Our hygienist applies ozone as a gas or in oils or water and allows it to penetrate the gum tissue that surrounds each tooth.
Discover the Benefits of Ozone Therapy
All types of patients can benefit from ozone therapy, including children, those with dental anxiety, and patients with sensitive smiles. If you would like to learn more about how we use ozone therapy and its benefits, please call our Orange, CA dental office.

Intraoral Cameras
You deserve to be informed about your oral health needs, and our intraoral cameras allow you to see what our dentist sees during your exams. An intraoral camera is a small handheld camera that produces highly-detailed digital images. The device lights up the inside of the mouth, and as our dentist moves it over your teeth, the images display on your chairside monitor.
You no longer have to imagine what your dentist is talking about because you can see the images yourself. As we view them together, our dentist points out problem areas like decayed, broken, or worn teeth, so you can better understand your oral health needs. Knowing what conditions exist, understanding the benefits of treatment, and learning how to prevent future problems make you an active and informed participant in your oral health care.
